Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th, 1964) was an American lawyer, politician, and the current vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice president , and the most powerful female official in U.S. history, as being the first African American and first Asian American vice president. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the attorney general for California from 2011 until 2017 and as a United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. After establishing her career as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Later she became the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010 Harris was elected Attorney General of California. She was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election and became the 2nd African American woman to serve in Congress , and the only South Asian American American to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator, she advocated for reforms to healthcare as well as federal de-scheduling cannabis, a pathway towards citizenship for immigrants without a legal status as well as the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. She was well-known for the direct questioning she conducted of Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
